Care & Safety

Don’t lick the glass…

…And other care and safety tips: Glass is delicate. The solder may look tough as stone but all elements of stained glass must be handled with care. When your artwork arrives to you, it will already be cleaned and sealed with polish. Since solder contains lead, make sure to wash your hands with soap and warm water after handling it, and keep it out of reach of children and pets. Whatever you use to display your glass should be strong and secure. Make sure chains are inspected before hanging, and I strongly recommend not using suction cups. Never attempt to bend a stained glass piece. Avoid cleaning your glass piece with harsh chemicals, and instead polish it once or twice a year to keep the solder from tarnishing. Stained glass polish or carnuba car wax will do the trick. If your artwork includes pressed flowers, make sure to keep it away from moisture or heavily humid environments. Use a wrung out cloth or q-tip to when polishing to prevent it seeping under the foil & affecting the flower. Be aware that prolonged sun exposure may cause the flowers to fade in color. If your artwork includes paint or foil overlay, be very gentle with polishing. Only apply polish to solder with a q-tip & avoid polishing or buffing painted areas.
